Macoupin County Courthouse to Undergo Major HVAC Upgrade Visitors Asked to “Pardon Our Dust” During 10-Month Project

Carlinville, IL — The Macoupin County Courthouse will soon begin a major heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) upgrade to improve comfort, energy efficiency, and long-term building preservation. The project, scheduled to last approximately ten months, represents another significant infrastructure improvement made to the historic courthouse in recent years.

Work is set to begin later this month and will continue through next summer. During this time, visitors may notice construction crews, temporary barriers, and the movement of materials throughout the courthouse. Some county offices may be temporarily relocated within the building to allow for work in their spaces.

“We’re excited to make these much-needed upgrades, but we know it will come with some disruption,” said County Board Chair Larry Schmidt. “We ask for everyone’s patience as we work to make the courthouse a more comfortable and efficient space for employees and the public.”

Residents conducting county business are encouraged to check the county’s website or call ahead to confirm office locations before visiting.

The project will ensure that the courthouse’s HVAC system meets modern efficiency standards, provides more consistent heating and cooling, and preserves the building’s historic integrity.

“We know the courthouse is a point of pride for Macoupin County,” added Building and Grounds Chair Harry Starr. “This investment will help us keep it comfortable and functional for decades to come. In the meantime — please excuse the mess.”
